Home Remedies for Yeast Infection

What causes a yeast infection?

There is not a simple and fast answer to this question. A cause that is quite common to many couples is an infected partner. Another cause can be due to sharing towels. On the other hand, many pregnant women suffer from yeast infections due to the changes in their body chemistry. Similarly, antibiotics can also cause yeast infections by altering the ph balance in the body. As you can see, there are many ways to catch a yeast infection and sometimes it could be a challenge to find the exact cause.

It's important to also note that some vaginal infections must be treated by a doctor and prescription medications. However, if you have a common form of this disease, there are some great home remedies for yeast infection that you can use.

The starting point for these remedies is the observation that yeast thrives in warm moist conditions. It prefers little oxygen and thus a yeast infection can be fighted by avoiding such a condition.

Here is a list of six remedies that you can easily use at home:

1-After bathing, showering or swimming, make sure to dry thoroughly. Any moisture can be a home to yeast infections. Never lounge around in wet swim wear. Change into dry clothes as soon as possible.

2- Select only breathable underwear that is made of cotton. Cotton will help to wick away moisture that can create the perfect setting for a yeast infection.

3-Instead of tight fitting jeans, opt for looser fitting pants or even better, skirts. These will allow your body plenty of "breathing" room. If you have to wear nylons for work, select those with a built in panty that is cotton lined. One of the best forms of home remedies for yeast infection is to avoid these whenever possible.

4-Always wash the area carefully and avoid irritating it with harsh soaps that can cause lesions or irritation. Many yeast infections can cause secretions so make sure to carefully cleanse the area and remove these secretions quickly to prevent further irritation and infection.

5-Many women swear by using a vinegar douche they are preventing yeast infections. If they do have one, they again choose to use a vinegar douche.

6-Some women have found relief by using a yogurt soaked tampon and wearing it for a few hours. It's important to use only plain yogurt that is organic for this purpose.
